The city of Orsha is located in the east of Belarus, in the upper reaches of the Dnieper River. The origin of the city's name is interesting. It comes from the color of the water in the Dnieper River - dark brown or rusty. The city was called Rzha, then the consonant sound was replaced, and now the name sounds like Orsha. The oldest city in Belarus is famous for the complex of the Jesuit College. The wooden church and monastery were founded in 1590 by the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Lev Sapieha on the left bank of the Orshitsa. Historical buildings have been preserved in Orsha - the railway station, built in 1912 and rebuilt in the 1930-1950s, the building of the former school - early 20th century (Molokova, 5), shopping arcades on the Market Square - late 19th - early 20th centuries, a girls' gymnasium - built in 1903.
