Kopyl
Kopyl is located in the south-west of Belarus in the Minsk region. Kopyl was first mentioned in 1274 in the Volyn-Galician chronicle during the war between the Galician-Kholmsky prince Leo and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Troiden. In the 1320s, the principalities of the Turov land, including the principality of Slutsk with the small town of Kopyl, became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The city has a butter and cheese factory and a large sand and gravel deposit. The Kopyl Regional Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1979. Its fund has rare collections of icons, exhibits of fine arts, folk weaving and architecture. The population of Kopyl is about 10 thousand people.
